Externship has ended now and it was a great experience not only because I worked with youth and adults, it was great because my pastor (mentor) allowed me to find that work place enviorment. Such as she gave me samples of sermons and resources and she trusts me to get it done and critique it, I think at times I was stressing to get the work done but soon realized that's what it's going to be like in college so I actually appreciated all the work as hard as it was. It allowed me to balance out time between procrastinating and than realizing the work has get done. When not working with my pastor (afternoon to evening and on the weekends) and I had work to do, I decided to go to Starbucks since I seen alot of people get work there done. Sure enough I got lots of work done and drank the most coffee I've ever had but on a more serious note externship has allowed me to get the feel for the world work force. The work has to get done at a certain time because other people are realing on you. After externship I've been give the opportunity to preach once a none starting in June so I'm really excited of furthering my walk of faith and just being able to have a month where I can see the life of a pastor.

Externship is right around the corner from ending and as I reflect back it went faster than I thought it would but it was a great experience. I think many try to say they learn a lot about themselves but when you know yourself you don't have to go through that phase. This externship as given me an opportunity to better my skills when it comes to writing papers and still developing my flow as a writer. Within the last 3 weeks since finishing my papers I've learned a paper can always become better I've asked for for feedback on my paper from teachers, my mothers, friends and it's neat to see my paper only get better but also knowing that my paper is interesting enough to have people come up to me and ask to read it because of a friend or a teacher heard about it. I wasn't to big of a fan when it to writing but this has given my the opportunity to express my belief and opinion on topics in a respectful way. I think the best part of externship is hearing people's feedback on my paper and see the transition of my paper that was all of the place to really send a message to the reader. My work ethic has really changed in a good way of learning that managing my time and really putting in those extra hours at editing and doing my research. Below our my papers and the revision history and I will be presenting a hard copy or the before and after cope of both of my papers at my externship presentation of Learning (EPOL).
The three pictures represents my morning working on editing and critique my papers that I've been writing for the month of May. I really appreciate externship because it has given me the opportunity to better my writing school but also editing school and my time management skills. I plan on presenting my Abortion and 6th graders + Sexual Ed=??? Paper at my TPOL for externship but overall I'm really happy with the time and effort pay off in seeing my paper coming together. Externship is half way through and I've learned a lot about myself within just half a month, This Externship has really given me the opportunity to see my time management skills to improve. For my Externship I preached at two services for the last two weeks straight and I felt within a week I've improved presentation wise and even preparation wise. I'm also writing two papers one is on abortion and the other one is one 5th graders being taught about sexually intercorse at that young of an age. In those two papers I've done many drafts and still am by getting feedback and really one thing I'm trying to do is get my message across, build up and than last paragraph is an opportunity for myself to tell the reader what I want them to take away. My mentor is my pastor since age 7 so our relationship is great she is giving me a lot of work but that comes with freedom to get the work done, but i'm really glad this externship has shown me what I'm capable of.
It's been almost two week since starting Externship, I've learn so much within the last two weeks. I've been working with my pastor who runs two churches and I feel like I've been exposed to her daily job of being a pastor. So far this has only showed me that it really has to be a calling from God to be a pastor. Still believing that it may be a calling for myself, this has really allowed me to question if I can do this on a daily basis because just being a intern my pastor has provided me work which has given me more in depth of how she preps for sermons or youth retreats. You really need to manage your time to the extreme because you can get distracted real fast whether it be a phone call or text or even wanting to take a break. My project for my externship has changed a tad bit to write papers on research or interviews that I've done. The two papers i'm writing is connect to christian values and even more so human values/rights, Abortion and teaching sexual intercourse at age 10 or 11 below are the drafts of my paper which is still coming together, one thing I'm still working on is really trying to get my message across with no question. One thing I do while writing is bounce from topic to topic.
Being a intern with my pastor I've been given the opportunity to preach God's word. 3 days ago I preached for mothers day so lately instead of meeting up with pastor I go to Starbucks to focus but I'm still in contact with my my pastor. This Sunday I will be preaching again so above in the picture I am looking up scriptures and using bible hub a really great resource that my pastor suggested to me when trying to analysis scriptures. Next week my pastor and I plan on going to hospital's and nursing home to give small messages to those who are sicks but also those who would like to pray with a pastor and Intern. I'm really looking forward to next week because I've been to healing services and I've seen God's work unfold before my eyes. Last week I went to an organization with my pastor that's called CAPS, it's a christian organization that helps young women/couples that are thinking about abortion. Being a Christian that loves God and on the way to this even It really got me thinking about how society is making it an escape route for young teens and adults. Many people consider it a fetus and we can discuss all day if a baby should be consider a baby but you see that night listening to the purpose of CAPS was to show this person God's Love it doesn't matter what your stance is on abortion. CAPS offers counselling to there patients for free but what shocked me was this year alone here in San Diego County 17,000 baby's will be killed. Here in the United States the abortion rate is going down, CAPS has four locations here in San Diego County and have saved over 400 baby's and CAPS has a 25% increase within patients. CAPS has medical staff on site but two thing they do is support the patient by offering counseling and free ultra sounds which has helped 95% of patients change there mind about abortion. I personally think those who are thinking about killing there baby are just feeling alone and many say "it's the only choice". I and many disagree they just need support, they need love , not just our love, the need God's Love.
For the last two days my work space has been a Starbucks in Liberty station since it's safer than the one near my house. I plan on giving a sermon on the 21 of May, which has allowed me to just go to Starbucks and get work done. My pastor is still sick but I am in communications with here revising my work but one thing that I really appreciate is she is giving me a lot of work because that what she has to do on a daily basis. I love be able to be trusted with all this work , I've been asked by complete strangers/friends why I believe in God and if that gets the word out I am more than happy to share the love that God has for all. For my project I decided to make a reflection paper of the questions I ask to complete strangers. In my paper I stated something along the lines of Christians is the only religion that serves a living God and I pointed out two other religions and I'm debating if I should included that because it does put those two other religion down. Which might offend those other two religion or even give off the wrong vibes of christian because Christianty main point is Love.... Love one another which is the only thing that is making me question if I should put that in my paper. Other than that the only thing that challenging me is making sure I give enough time to complete work and revise it because this is allowing me to see if I would like to do this as my carer in the future.
Today was a great day even though I found out my pastor has laryngitis which made me question what I was going to do for my first day of my externship. Don't worry I actually did work my pastors husband stepped in and I joined an adult bible study with that being sad I saw some behind the sence of how a bible study is lead and how scriptures are chosen. I also got to see how a children's bible study is lead and it was neat to see the difference between how an adult study and children bible study is lead. For lunch we went to In and Out I shared my "This I believe" paper which I have attached below and I got feedback and I worked on the sermon that I'm going to be giving on the 21. We even discussed my project of making and video and the paper that will allow me to gather other peoples opinion and put it in a writing piece to share. For my 12th grade externship I will be working with Rev. Tish McRae whom is the pastor of two churches here in San Diego County. Chollas view and Lemon Grove United Methodist church has been blessed to have a pastor that preaches straight from the word. Over the last two years I personally have grown in my faith. A big supporter in my walk of faith has allowed me to over see what it it like to be in church of two churches but also has given me the opportunity to bring the word on May 21, 2017. For my externship project I plan on make a video as well as a paper interviewing random people to see if they believe in christ. I'm looking forward to putting in the time and effort to learn what a pastor does on a daily bases because one of the field i'm interested is youth ministry. I also will be working with kids on tuesday and wednesday for youth bible study. I also plan on visiting hospital and nursing home to be able to be exposed to praying and talking with people just as any pastor does on a daily bases. |
