Stereotypes and Lenses
This Semester we looked through different lens when reading, such as Critical Race Lens, Feminist Lens, Psychoanalysis, Marxism, Gender Theory, Reader Response. This were our main focus but through out our semester we saw multiple times that some lens intertwined with each other. We looked at books and even a pod cast which was actually very interesting it made us wonder who was the killer. We also did a small project called :The Unfair Project" it allowed us to stop and think of all the good and bad stereotypes people have labeled. It really allowed us students to reflect back and what people in today society think and how the judge us on are race or where we live.

Serial is a online pod cast which tell a murder story about a high school girl murder in 1999 and Sarah, the narrator investigate on who actually killed hae.
Listening to this pod cast get us involved by doing our own research and making our own prediction on who killed hae. The pod cast is one of the most listen to currently here in the U.S . Talking about The U.S , In serial it shows how broken our system is because of some incident and witness statements made the outcome different. In serial if you were to listen to it you would see the Jay changes his story often but yet he didn't face any charges or any fine. I really liked Serial its a great story told by Sarah the often of digging of trying to find evidence shocks me that she is very dedicated towards this case but than it makes me question why is she so dedicated? |

Reflection
Reflecting back on this semester It really seems like it went by fast, It was great to have Colleen once again as well as to meet her new T.A Nikki. I honestly wasn't sure how we were going to pull off this project but it came out great and I really saw that the night of exhibition. With all the drafts and nights staying up to make sure my writing piece was the best that it could be really paid off their wasn't any piece that I was proud of because of all the critiques I got back for peers and teachers. I loved this project because it allowed each of us students to get some input in as well as being able to get the visual pieces up in two days was great as well. Below is a piece done by students that comes together and says perspective this is a great example of showing how all of the student got their voice heard each piece represents someones "nugget". The hardest part for me was to find a end to my nugget story because I didn't want to all of a sudden end it, but with the help of my peers and teachers I made a great ending. Perspective I think after learning more about what perspective is to other it has changed my perspective because we all see different things so the way I would define it would the way someone looks at something. You may disagree with that because that the way you see the definition of perspective. Mural Piece |
First we read "Let American Be American Again" and "Harlem" by the great poet Langston Hughes. Than we broke it down by sections and try to find the meaning of each section and than we got to the part of us making our own poem within the poem "Let America Be America Again". It was cool experience to be able to make something else from someone else work. My classmates and I shared our blackout poem and it seemed like we all had different messages as well as a different visual, my visual is a American flag with my poem circled.
In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood By Truman Capote is a book about a family who got murdered in real life and this books has every lens. I looked through reader response lens which mean what is the message that Capote is trying to send us. As a reader Capote states everything in this book is true but through our own research we find things that have been twisted or been added so we question as readers if Capote has been telling the truth throughout In Cold Blood. We also we anointed because we knew we would have write a paper on the lens we looked through. Capote uses multiple lens put some key ones are Critical Race Lens, Feminist lens and more. When reading In Cold Blood I gained Critical Race Lens because there are some part where he says something but its directed towards that one race. When deciding what lens I wanted to do it was hard for me because I really like the reader response because It allows me as a reader to look through a different view by not being a student but actually has me think about what would the majority of reader will say about In Cold Blood or even what would the change about this book. To the left is my final essay after multiple peer feedback which talks about Decisions that the two main character has to decide and what us reader think after we dig deeper.
My Nugget1 out of 3 essays I did this this semester included a writing process known as "our nugget". Our nugget process wasn't to hard first we interviewed our class mate they just told us a small story as we listen we were to get something small (Nugget) and than we would take the nugget and turn it into something bigger. My nugget was about a kid that wanted a game but his mother just got laid off and the father works night shift being a security guard. When writing it was nice to make the story my own because I could add what I wanted and than ask for feedback from peers to see what they think. Below is my final "nugget" writing piece after many drafts and peer feedback.

Exhibition Night
Exhibition night couldn't have gone better I really loved it because with the cat walked lit up with all the final writing pieces up and all the guest were really happy on how we decided to exhibit our work. I was luckily enough to be able to have my second shift off but for my first shift I was to explain the project of honors bio and it was really nice to see that people see whats it happening in the world. When I talk about people seeing i'm talking about my bio honors project because it seems like a lot of people have forgotten about the homeless and it made me really happy to see that people still care and do think about them. Personally I got touched by the people I interviewed because it's so sad that in today's society that a 18% increased is projected within the next year. When will our government step in and help to make a change. Exhibition though was really nice and I was pleased with the turn out because we got to see hard work throughout the semester paid off.
