I'm looking forward to interning at the Franklin center. I look forward to meeting new people but also obtaining new communication skills as well as help the Santa Barbara community to the best of my abilities. I'm honestly not nervous I'm just really excited to get the feel of a working environment and making sure I learn from others who have to do this in real life.

I just finished my third day at the Franklin center in Santa Barbara. The last few days I have learned a lot, to understanding the rules of being a employee to learning what a time sheet it for as well as filling it out. I also learned how exactly the city of Santa Barbara is run, it is separated by 4 departments. I even got to help kids with understand their school work. I feel like I have a back stage pass because I also have been working the park and rec department. Today was a busy working day because of the storm that is passing by ("El nino"). I got to work with fellow colleagues by doing some physical labor work we dealt with some sprinkling so we decided the best way to hurry and do the job correctly to finish was to work as a team. We had to take down fences that we're surrounding the park that just got repaired we also had to pick up tree bark that fell on from palm trees, there was also some mulch the we had to place in plants within a hour and a half we got the job down. It was a great opportunity to work with adults who do this for a living. I have liked almost everything I had done throughout the past few days I've gotten to met great, funny people and besides making the park better than how the storm left it. One highlight of my internship this far has been tutoring/helping a young 6th grader in math it was a great feeling because I once was that kid. I can't wait to see what this internship has in store for me throughout the month of January.

It is officially Friday today at internship was great because the sun came out there was not a single drop of rain. So that meant I got to working outside and making sure the Franklin community center was in the best shape it was before I began to enjoy the weekend. I try to collect as much information as I can before the day ends reflecting back on today, I realize the Franklin center is a very important part of Santa Barbara because it gives parents the opportunity to bring their kids to get check up by a doctor. Today I got a see cars coming in and out of the parking lot it was great to see all kinds of people coming and go. One this I also noticed was almost all of the parents were friendly it made me fell warm in side to say I'm a part of the team at the Franklin center. Today was a very long day at the Franklin center working out in the sun and cleaning up after what the storm had left over. I'm looking forward to what the weekend as for me in store I'm hoping there is good weather.

Today marks a week since I started my internship. So far it has been a great feeling of just meeting new people and seeing how blessed I am and overall getting the fell of having to go to work and encounter many different task and people. So far I have gotten to view the different branches that run a city and seeing that every person working in that department has to do there part in order to make sure the city looks the best it can. I also went through training classes of learn more about how to deal with certain issues. I think so far it's been easy work but now there's only a week into the book now my project is coming up. My project is to make a video/documentary on a artists that works at the Franklin center he is the one who has been painting those trash can (See pictures above). I'm looking forward to working with Miguel the painter on getting what he would like to see in the video but as well as my mentor. I even got a chance to step out of my she'll of learning how to do some strokes but I also learned that art is never ugly it just take practices and just let your hand and heart do the work, everything else well fall into its place. I'm really excited to get to work with technology and making sure this video is the best it can be also when the video is done I'll make sure to upload it

There isn't a huge difference from school and internship I think mainly because high tech high international is a project base so it teaches you about working together and overall making sure everyone is doing there work so that we can have a final product. At the Franklin center it's more or less the same because it is a center serving the east side of Santa Barbara which means everyone needs to pull the part in order to keep it running and looking nice for example I have had the chance of sitting in a training. During that training it was trying to bring more young adult into the program it helped young adults find a job and stay out of trouble but overall allows the Franklin center start to get new ideas and prepare for the future. but also prepare for the future. ideas and prepare for the future. There is a big difference in my schedule between work and school because my school is in the same county when as my internship isn't. Time wise is different I wake up and 5:30 to get to work by 7:30 when as school I wake up at 7 and get off at 3:25 when as I get off at 4:00. When it comes to responsibility in the morning I work with park and rec they make sure all 3 centers look very good and make sure that trash doesn't build up. For the past two week I have thought and said that I wouldn't mind working for a city it isn't to hard of a job but I think it is within my range because I like helping the community and seeing progress of the months to become year.

This evening I read and commented on Jonathan Abazan/Daniel Garcia/Lance Wiggin overall they had a very positive view on there internship and are learning new skills for getting the feel of a work environment to make a website or even learn how to manage a time schedule. Its great to see friends doing some good work and also learning about what they have done so far. I wished them lucked as the finish up the next 7 days left of internship. I'm very impressed by what all 3 of them are doing one is make a website and someone else is editing photos learning customer service skills and last one is learning how important time management is.

New skills I believe I will bring into my academic studies is mainly communication with peers as we work in order to get the task done. As well as making sure everyone agrees with the job they have overall making sure everyone feels committed to do there part in the work that needs to be done. When I think of the biggest picture of my lesson from my internship is just realizing how many people keep a city running and yes my internship was in Santa Barbra which is much smaller than San Diego. I worked with the Franklin Center and with Park and Recs while excited the water department had a very busy day because of a sink hold appeared in the middle of the night which made them shut the water which soon caused the water to back up and the pressured build up and that made a water pipe uploaded and water went all over the 101 north bound freeway and soon would be shut down for 48 hours. It was a sudden emergency project to try to get everything back to normal because the weekend was upon us. Through out the day in the morning I saw the city of Santa Barbara official come together to try to relieve the problem at hand. It felt great being able to see how the workers come together to get it resolved or at least for the public to have a easier route such as putting up detours signs and so forth.

It has been great to be able to work within two place in one month. I got to work with Parks and recreation for the city if Santa Barbara but also the Franklin community center. I made a meaningful works environment by working with my co workers for example while working safety was our main thing each and every day. Working for the city helped my education by finding new skills as well as working in a actual working space where you have a boss and you are getting paid and in my case you are serving the community so make sure at all time the environment is safe and respect everyone. My internship help a lot with my personal life because I got to see first hands how many people work everyday to make sure the city looks the best as it can as well as when I am at the Franklin center it helps to see how much it means to the community. My internship project is right up my alley but I know that I'm going have to work on it after Internship is over I'm making a video on behalf of a artist that runs a club called arts alliance. Which helps kids improves there skills when it comes to art. I have been also witnessing some art pieces being done it is great to be able to witness art pieces being put together. I am looking forward to all the work I put in to the video and seeing what it comes out to.

I have started to appreciate all the teachers that I've had who taught me that hard works pays off for example making me do those extra drafts when it came to writing pieces. It came into hand when I started to make the video for Miguel and I had him give me feedback on what he would like to see in the video, as well I asked for other Co workers and I got great useful feedback. Also I started to appreciate city officials more because I have seen countless times of them working very hard to make sure the task at hand get done as you can read in my earlier post a water pipe broke and water went everywhere yet the city had it all cleaned up and at the end of the 48 hours closure it seems as if nothing happened. Some characteristics I have seen in my co workers that I would like to pick you is hardworking, dedication meaning everyone had passion into runs a club called arts alliance. Not much of my view has change looking past high school I think mainly I just really want to be thankful all city employees who work hard to make sure the city looks that best it can. My internship has started to make me think more about what I want to do in life and becoming some kind of a employee of a small city has crossed my mind but we will see.
Communication was a key part in my internship because when a park is in need of help a team gather to get the job knocked out but also at the Franklin center communication was a big key because when a kid needs help we must he able to help him and if not we must communicate with someone who does.
